What the apprenticeship covers
Learners gain practical capability in workflow automation, large language models, agentic AI, prompt engineering, data preparation, model evaluation, and the ethical and regulatory frameworks that govern AI in UK workplaces.
Typical duration is 12 to 18 months, ending with an end-point assessment. Apprentices spend at least 20% of their time on off-the-job learning, applying new skills directly to live business problems.
Who it suits
Ideal candidates include existing employees in operations, IT, data, marketing and customer service who are ready to take on responsibility for AI automation initiatives. New hires can also be recruited specifically into the apprenticeship.
Funding via the Apprenticeship Levy
Levy-paying employers can fund the apprenticeship directly from their levy pot. Non-levy employers pay only 5% of the cost, with the government covering 95%. This makes the Level 4 AI Automation Practitioner one of the most cost-effective ways to embed AI expertise in your business.
How it pairs with AI Skills Bootcamps
Run bootcamps to lift baseline AI literacy across hundreds of staff in a single quarter, then channel your strongest learners into the Level 4 apprenticeship to become internal AI champions, automation leads and responsible-AI owners.
